Happy holidays!

School holidays are nearly over and, while they’ve been a lot of fun, I think we’re all looking forward to a return to normality! Some beautiful things from the last few days (in no particular order)…

1) The Linlithgow Rugby Club Male Voice Choir – eight of them came and sang “When I’m sixty-four” this evening as a surprise for my Dad (who is a choir member) – they were amazing! And I don’t think “Happy Birthday” has ever been sung so tunefully in that house before!!

2) Megan, all dressed up and ready to go to the first of her three parties this weekend (making five in the last week alone!).

3) Aidan, announcing “I love school!” this afternoon.

4) Maple sponge cake, with maple buttercream icing – very sweet, but utterly delicious!

5) Several glorious sunsets, even if they were enhanced by the ash cloud!

6) Daffodils finally flowering in the garden.

7) Spotting two more new shoots on my umbrella tree – new life 🙂 .

What’s beautiful in your life at the moment?

Another new shoot, another beautiful sky and a new picture

1) And another baby shoot on my umbrella tree – it’s happy. I’m happy! I feel perhaps I should explain the significance of this particular plant – my sister gave it to me when I moved out of home for the first time. That was in, gulp, 1990. That means it is over 20 years old, and I’ve had it for a fair bit over half my own lifetime!

2) Beautiful sunset this evening, with the added drama of torrential rain and stormy skies simultaneously.

3) That parcel I didn’t have to wait in for the other day? It was a picture frame. K is putting it up on the wall as I type 🙂 .

Sunset, warmth and friendship

1) A glorious purple sunset adorned the sky this evening.

2) Unexpected warmth and friendliness from the girl behind the checkout desk this morning.

3) Friendships crop up in unexpected places – my friend’s father-in-law helps her out on a regular basis and brings her kids to some the classes my own children are in. We stand and chat while the children are in the swimming pool. It’s lovely to have the perspective that comes with maturity and experience – I appreciate his wisdom very much.

Sunset, sleeping children and starlit gardens

1) Sunset – a glorious one over the Ochils… and the important bit – it didn’t happen until 1733! Oh how I’m loving these longer days!

2) Successfully calming two hyper kids down to become two quiet, peaceful children who curled up in bed and went to sleep straight away – result!

3) Frost and starlight transforming my garden into a sparkling twinkling place.

A sunset, a sight and a big splash!

1) A truly beautiful day yesterday – Petticur Beach (a west-facing beach) on the east coast of Scotland (10 years ago it was the east coast of England). And we watched the sun go down together. Ten years ago it was just the two of us. This time there were four of us. Then a wonderful meal out – gorgeous food, superb service, and many thanks to my brother for his babysitting services 🙂 .

2) Driving A to school from Linlithgow this morning had the additional bonus of the Ochils at their glorious best – blue skies, bright sunlight shining on the snow-capped hills – I can’t think of a better start to the day!

3) Watching A jump, almost without hesitation, into the swimming pool during his lesson today. He did it several times trying various different jumps – wow! A few short weeks ago, and he would never have done that – he’s conquering his fear. Very proud Mummy moment.
