WIP Wednesday 86

Is that another week gone by already? I must have blinked, because I think I missed it!

The good news is that I am still making forward progress 🙂 .  I’m nearly finished my second Alpha sock!  I’ve set myself the goal of having it completed for K’s return at the weekend. Barring my life going mad again over the next few days (there’s no guarantee that it won’t though 🙁 ), I ought to manage it.

I’ve also finished the first sleeve for Cherry Blossom.  I haven’t had time to cast on the second one though.

PS Please forgive the dodgy photos taken on my phone – K ran off to Bangkok with my camera!

It’s been another busy busy week.  I’m looking forward to life calming down!  I got the little teddy completed in time and it’s found its way to its new home.  But I’ve made slow progress on my two main projects.

Firstly, my Alpha Sock now has half a heel flap!

Second up, I’ve completed the lace section of the body of Cherry Blossom, and just started on the first sleeve. You can see the picot edge on the cuff if you look closely!

I’m in a hurry this week – too much to do, too little time…

First up, I have no new photos, but I’m nearly ready to turn the heel on my Alpha sock, and I’ve nearly completed the lace section on my Cherry Blossom.

But all regular knitting was derailed a bit on Sunday, when I learned that the little Pippa bear that I gave to a special Small Person earlier in the year, had gone walkabout leaving behind a very sad SP.  So…

I’ve taken the opportunity to work some more on converting this pattern (knitted flat) to a knitted in the round pattern.  I’m still not very happy with the shape of the arms (I’ll adjust that for the next bear I make), but I added in a raglan-style top to the body, meaning that I had live stitches to pick up for knitting the arms.  I’m reasonably happy with how it’s working out!

Now, I need to get back to it… sew the head, stuff the bear and attach the head, sew on the face, and then knit the dress and shoes, attach them, and then add the accesories to the bear.  All before tomorrow!

It’s been a reasonably productive week, knitting-wise, I’m pleased to report.

Miss Kitty is finally blocking (but it’s been so warm and humid here that it seems to be taking an age to dry!).

I’ve started the next stage of my Alpha Sock, and have started the cables on the main body of the sock.

And, I’ve cast-on for Cherry Blossom for Girls, a pretty little lacy cardi which is intended as a birthday present for a certain little girl that I know… As you can see it has a picot edge, which I’ve completed and will be starting the lace section next.

Well, I’m very pleased to be able to tell you that I’m very nearly finished my Miss Kitty! There are just a couple of rows left to go before I can cast off. 🙂

WIP Wednesday 81

This last week, I’ve been mostly working on my Miss Kitty… I did have plans to cast on the second Alpha sock, but problems with Miss Kitty took up most of my time!

I decided to add a couple of extra vertical pattern repeats to lengthen the body, and then it was time to add in the sleeve edgings.  For those not familiar with the pattern, the sleeve edgings are 52 stitches cast on and joined to knit in the round, and then a further two rounds are knitted.  These are then joined in to the body on one round (i.e. you go from 6 horizontal pattern repeats, to 10).  The pattern warns that doing this might be “quite tight”, and that you might like to use extra circular needles at this stage.

Note to self: before starting a pattern in the future, read other people’s comments on Ravelry – it would have saved me a weekend of futile time and effort.

I tried using both DPN’s and circular needles, and took extra care, but I still ended up with a huge hole under each arm, and horribly stretched stitches.  In the end, I ripped it out, and reknitted each sleeve edging, but this time on the straight.  I would definitely recommend doing this – I will have a few centimetres worth of seaming to do, but this is a small price to pay for a result I’m much happier with.  As I said, had I read Rav before I got to this stage, I would have realised that I was certainly not alone in battling with the sleeve edgings!

Still, here we are.  There are four vertical pattern repeats before the yoke, and I’m on pattern repeat two.  So, I’m getting there, if somewhat slower than I’d hoped.

WIP Wednesday 80

We’re in the last full week of summer holidays – hopefully more regular blogging will resume soon after the kids go back to school in the middle of next week!

Once again, I’ve not had much time for knitting, but I have made some progress with Miss Kitty. I’m about two-thirds of the way up the body now 🙂 .

Miss Kitty - progressMiss Kitty – progress is being made!

I’m planning to cast-on for the second Alpha sock later this week but, other than that, that’s all my news for now.  In the meantime, I’ll see you over at WIP Wednesday at Tami’s Amis and Ginny’s Yarn Along!

WIP Wednesday 79

I’m stealing a few moments before running the kids to Holiday Club to bring you up-to-date on my knitting…

First up, thank you for all your lovely comments on my Alpha sock 🙂 . I haven’t yet cast-on for sock two…  as I’m a knitter who reacts to knitting with wool, means that my skin still hasn’t quite recovered from knitting sock one 🙁 . I’ll get started soon though!

I have, however, made progress with Miss Kitty 🙂 . I originally cast on for the M/L size (eight repeats), but after knitting a couple of pattern blocks, I realised that it was absolutely huge! I’m at the upper end of the S/M size (six repeats) anyway, so I started over with the smaller size, and it’s looking good so far. Sizing issues aside I’m loving how the pattern is developing!

WIP Wednesday 77

We’re in the middle of school holidays here at the moment, and I miust admit to finding regular blogging something of a challenge this year! Still, in knitting updates, I’ve mostly been beavering away on my secret knitting projects, so not much to show just yet – hopefully in the next week or so!

I’ve still haven’t much progress on my Miss Kitty, but that’s because my non-SKP time has been spent knitting another cotton shawlette.  This time, it’s for a friend who is having a special birthday this year.  It’s called Little Shells. The pattern calls for silk, but I had this beautiful colour of bamboo cotton in my stash which I think the recipient will love, so I’m going with that instead! I’m very happy with how it’s looking so far 🙂 .

WIP Wednesday 76

Well, I’m back from holiday and slowly starting to get back into routine again.

I’ve spent the last couple of days working away on a hat project – it’s a kind of cross between Stephanie’s “Hat Fit For A Boyfriend“, and Zabett’s “Hubby’s Decoder Hat“, and it’s for M’s Enjoyaball teacher as a thank you present.  The colours are Enjoyaball colours. As you can see, I’ve just cast-off, but ends need to be woven in and it needs blocked.

I’m also about to cast-on for Miss Kitty (having see Nic’s version over at Nicsknots :-)).

I have a couple of other wee projects on the go at the moment, but they’re secret at the moment, so more about them in due course!
